Never Forsaken - Devotional

Never Forsaken - Devotional

psalm 9:10Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. - Psalms 9:10 NIV

Everyday the sun rises. Whether we see it or not, the sun is there. That big bright burning light might be hiding behind dark and gray clouds sometimes, but the sun is always shining. The sun is always there.

"Those who know your name"

We hear "Jesus", we say "Jesus", but do we know Jesus? Do we believe in Jesus? In this sense, to know God's name is to know the character of God. In this scripture, we get a glimpse of one of those characteristics - when we seek God, we know that God will always show up through the good, the bad, and even the ugly.

It can be so easy to just go with the flow, attending church every week. Singing praises and lifting our hands in the sanctuary while the music is loud and booming. It can be so captivating at times that we forget all about our problems while we're in that room. But what happens when we get home?

"Those who seek you"

When we get home, every problem is rushed back into our minds, and we begin to feel doubt and defeat in our hearts again. What happened? Did God forsake us? Did God leave us?

No. Just like the sun that is always shining, whether we can see it or not, God is greater than that sun. God created the sun! God created the entire universe! And God created us too. When we seek the Lord Jesus, we can find ourselves again in that same place and experience what we experience every Sunday morning.

You do not need a "church building" to seek God or feel God. It doesn't matter if it's Sunday or Thursday, God is right beside you, lifting you up, holding your heart in His hands. Seek the Him by reading scriptures that bring you joy. Seek Him through prayer. Seek Jesus by choosing to live and love following in His every footstep.

Seeking Jesus:

You no longer need to be afraid and feel like you've hit a brick wall. When you get home to a quiet place where you can focus - either day or night - take a look at these scriptures and give a listen to this song:

1) Hebrews 13:5 NIV

5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”

2) Job 11:17-19 NIV

17 Life will be brighter than noonday,

and darkness will become like morning.
18 You will be secure, because there is hope;
you will look about you and take your rest in safety.
19 You will lie down, with no one to make you afraid,
and many will court your favor.

3) Psalm 37:24-26 NIV

24 though he may stumble, he will not fall,

for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

25 I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.
26 They are always generous and lend freely;
their children will be a blessing.

Prayer:

Dear heavenly father, thank you for never leaving my side. You are always here with me, through the good, the bad, and the ugly.

You will never forsake me.

You Lord are mighty and strong, so I know that I can place my hope in you. Help me to live out my praise every day and not just on Sunday. Help me to trust you more so that I may Open my eyes to see you more and to hear what you are speaking to me Lord Jesus. I need you and I love you, Amen.
