QUIET... A Guide to Entering God's Peace

QUIET... A Guide to Entering God's Peace

QUIET...

"Oh, there's nothing like some peace and quiet." - someone, if not everyone.

Earlier this morning, I went into my prayer space. It's outside my home, inside a cozy shed. This isn't just any old shed. This is the FIRST building that my husband and I own! And as we are in the process of making this thing beauteous, it's just a nice space to enter into in the "peace and quiet" and have some uninterrupted time with the Lord.

But this morning it dawned on me:

SOME PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PEACE AND QUIET IS!
There are some people who enter into quiet spaces and are afraid. Afraid of what you might ask?
THE QUIET!
Being left alone with one's own thoughts and feelings about life. About anything really. I don't know about you, but this kind of perspective never crossed my mind until today.
So, here's a little something to help anyone who might not know how to enter into God's peace while faced with quiet time. Hopefully, you'll find the time to make this a daily spiritual practice to help strengthen your connection and relationship with Jesus.

Finding Peace in Quiet Times: A Guide to Entering God’s Peace

1.) Set your intentions on meeting with God - "Lord, help me find Your peace in this time."

2.) Find a quiet place/peaceful environment: I went into my quiet shed. I haven't always had this shed. I used to take prayer walks or go into a quiet room in my house. Honestly, sometimes those quietest times happen in the car!

  • Find a quiet, comfortable place free from distractions.
  • If you want, set the lighting by dimming the lights or lighting a candle. My husband and I both love setting the atmosphere with different pretty lights
  • Turn on some music! (I know I said "QUIET," but sometimes music helps aid in silencing your negative thoughts and allowing for a fresh perspective of faith to enter in.) Play soft instrumental worship music to help create a peaceful atmosphere giving God a blank canvas to give you peace.

3.) Start with Thankfulness: What has God done for you lately? For one, you're alive and well enough to be reading this blog post. Thank God for the day, for God's presence, and for God's love. Gratitude can shift focus from your worries to the goodness of God.

(Even right now as I am typing this, I am pleading the blood of Jesus over your quiet time with God that Holy Spirit would meet with you and encourage your innermost being and give you PEACE! AMEN!)

4.) READ YOUR BIBLE: Meditate on verses that speak of God's peace. You can use google to research scriptures about God's peace such as Philippians 4:6-7 or Isaiah 26:3. Repeating these scriptures aloud or in your mind can help center thoughts on God's promises.

  • Philippians 4:6-7 - 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
  • Isaiah 26:3 - You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.

5.) Practice Deep Breathing: Do you know that you carry the breath of life!? God's breath is ever breathing on the inside of you, giving you an abundant life! Take a moment right now and just take a BIG deep breath in, and out. Slow, deep breathing can help calm the mind and body. As you breathe in, imagine breathing in God's peace. As you exhale, release any stress or anxiety. God is there. Amen.

As you take this time, I pray that you will feel renewed within your spirit and enjoy your quiet time! Remember, God is there. You are HIS! Amen.
